The Queen of Nothing (The Folk of Air #3) by Holly Black

The Queen of Nothing (The Folk of the Air, #3)The Queen of Nothing by Holly Black

This one started slow compared to the other two in the series.

We meet Jude, the mortal who left the Faerie land shaken in a dull mortal life. Jude is living with Vivi, her sister and Oak, her younger brother in a cramped apartment. She also takes jobs for faerie people who live in the mortal world in exchange of mortal money. Jude here is in a depressed state, who goes again and again about what happened in Faerie land. Jude is unable to stomach the fact that she is the high queen of fae and yet is she exiled.

The things start to move when her twin sister Taryn returns from Fae after murdering her husband Locke. Taryn wants to Jude to go back to Fae and take Taryn’s place during court trial because Jude can’t be glamoured. Jude takes up the chance to go back and there begins another drama.

Jude is once again mixed up with royal fights but joins back with Carden. Modoc in process to take the throne initiates a new beginning of High King Carden. There is curses everywhere in this story and Jude gets entangled with a biggest curse where Carden is turned into a serpent. Jude breaks the curse on Carden and life gets a bit better (at least for Jude).

The final installment in the series was a bit dull in the middle but did have all the charm of the first two books. I loved it and remembered why did I love the characters so much at the first place. Enchanting read.

The Wicked King (The Folk of Air #2) by Holly Black

The Wicked King (The Folk of the Air, #2)The Wicked King by Holly Black
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

****4.0****

This was a dark with royal politics. Jude, after a coup against the High King of Fae, Carden is the new High King of Fae. Jude secretly controls him and is his new minister. But it is she who is running the Faerie kingdom. She is also fallen against Madoc, her step father and is drawn into family politics.

Jude is constantly at odds with Cardan, who does not miss a chance to humiliate her. And at the same time Jude struggles with the fact that Oak is the heir to Faerie and she must keep her younger brother safe. Meanwhile, Jude finds out that someone is going to betray her and she must find the traitor before they could potentially ruin her plans or lose her life in the process.

There are a lot of plot twists and keeps a reader on the verge of losing it. Black’s writing is good and crisp. This book is enchanting and bloodthirsty.
